Vacation transportation is a tricky beast, whether you’re navigating a foreign underground subway system or adjusting to driving on the other side of the road it ain’t easy.

Transportation becomes even more difficult when the country is comprised of 115 islands in the Indian Ocean. Welcome to Seychelles.

There are only a few ways to get to the islands themselves. The easiest way is by plane, flying into Seychelles International Airport near Victoria, but service is extremely limited and awfully expensive. The most common and affordable way to get to Seychelles is via boat.

But once you arrive on the islands and settled into your Seychelles hotel how are you supposed to get around? Even the largest islands only offer enough attractions for two days of sightseeing at most. Thankfully there are a host of local transportation options.

Plane

Again, this is not the common means of transportation, but there are a variety of flights available between the bigger islands. Be prepared for amazing views at the cost of bumpy rides and risky landings.

Helicopter

If you’re spending time in Seychelles chances are good you can afford a helicopter, which is the best way to get to your Seychelles resort. Chartered flights run to and from wherever you want to go, but it will cost you. The scenery couldn’t be better and is well worth the price tag.

Boat

Yet again the transportation of the common man trumps all. There are some islands in the country that are only accessible via boat. And while it may take you a while to get there the abandoned beaches will be well worth your trouble.

Car

Obviously a car can’t get you from island to island but they do enable visitors to see parts of islands they wouldn’t see otherwise. Thanks to the British the people of Seychelles drive on the left side of the road, which is typically uncrowned and in a state of disrepair. Rental rates are cheap and it is a fun way to get around.
